Pictures: Riu Palace Second Year

A few years ago members of the Riu family laid their eyes upon a small, sleepy and rather boring property in Palm Beach: Aruba Grand Resort & Casino. Fast forward a few years later and there you have it, an iconic and equally colossus structure of 450 suites.

Aruba Grand had a solid but sterile image. It was one of the few resorts which had restrictions for vehicles to reach the lobby area. Even before when it operated as Sheraton it had a similar image. It had one of the deepest pools anywhere on the island, thus attractive for dive companies to give lessons.

On July 21 it is exactly two years ago since Riu Palace opened for customers. Reviews are mixed, however, mostly positive. It is a self-proclaimed five star all-inclusive property, with all modern amenities. After having to cope with start-up issues it seems to be doing well. Reportedly Riu Aruba generates the most revenue per room of all of their properties in the region.
