What’s happening these days

For the first time ever Aruba is host to a film festival: Aruba International Film Festival. This festival is happening from June 4 to June 11. The scheduled host on the inaugural day of the film festival is Richard Gere. This is huge. I hope he can really attend and the whole venue turns out to be a success.

On another note, the island government continues with its efforts to come to some sort of regulation on the beaches and its – commercial – users. Currently there are talks with water sport service providers about a better and safer use of the sea and beaches. Another important point is the regulation of illegal construction and usage of the beach, specifically by – hotel – restaurants and palapas.

Lastly, island officials have been traveling in Europe and South America in order to seek or reinforce markets. Venezuela, Brazil and Germany are being targeted right now. These are big markets that are sub-developed. The Venezuelan market remains a problematic issue and difficult to negotiate with. Nevertheless, Venezuela remains important for this island’s tourism.
